Our Captains have heavy public contact; therefore we are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and friendly with superb guest service & communication skills. We are looking for team players with the ability to ensure safety while aboard the vessel, represent in a professional manner and give VIP service to all passengers and crew. Vessel Description: 42 passenger USCG Certified/Inspected Inland Waters tour vessel. Built in 1910 as a passenger launch, designed for the shallow waters of Humboldt Bay California. In service as a passenger ferry 1910 to 1972. In service as a harbor cruise tour vessel 1972 to present. Owned and operated by the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum 1983 to present. Live narration is given on each cruise by the Captain. Construction: Wood - excellent condition Length 49.7 ft Beam 12 ft Depth 3.5 ft. Net 14 tons, Gross 10 Steering: Traditional spoke wheel, Chain driven Propulsion: Single screw, 2002 Isuzu turbo 4 cyl Capacity: 44 people (42 passengers) (2 crew) Electronics: GPS Chart Plotter, VHF, Depth Sounder Qualifications: • USCG Master License –25 ton Inland Waters or greater • TWIC • FCC Radio Operators Permit (will get you up to date if needed) • Current First Aid/CPR (will get you up to date if needed) • Basic Computer Skills Requirements: • Maneuver vessel with a safety first attitude • Able to effectively communicate with passengers—greet guests, set the tone for the cruise • Effectively communicate and work as a team player with crew and management • Learn and deliver historical narration as directed • Actively learn local knowledge of Humboldt Bay • Mechanically inclined Duties include: (not limited to listed) • Overall Safety of the vessel, passengers and crew • General vessel paperwork • Fueling of the vessel and pumping head when needed • General upkeep of engine room and engine fluids • Ensure all aspects of vessel operations • Supervise passenger boarding/disembarking procedures and requirements • Engine room checks • Oversee crew in housekeeping chores and maintenance projects • Perform required safety drills This is a seasonal position with a variation in schedule in accordance with seasonal trends: • Available to work mornings, days, evenings and weekends • Available to work all holidays • Ability to work overtime Typical Vessel Works Hours: Tues.-Saturday 12-7pm Sun. 10 am -5:30 pm Mon. 12-4pm (Not including private charters, special event cruises or maintenance) Vessel operates daily- hours and work days will vary Physical Requirements: ***This is a physically demanding job that requires a moderate level of agility.*** • Lift 25 pounds • Full range of motion in shoulders, elbows, hands, feet, ankles and knees • Ability to work on your feet for more than 8 hours • Ability to step down from a platform with a 2 foot step • Ability to turn a chain driven spoked ship wheel |
